Hi, my name is Jana!
"The heart that breaks open
can contain the whole universe”
- Joanna Macy
I am an Associate Degree Counsellor and Integrative Psychotherapist and continue my studies for the Bachelor with Ikon Institute of Australia. Originally I am from Germany and live in Australia for seven years.
As a practicing Counsellor and Integrative Psychotherapist (rather than a psychologist), I draw on a holistic framework that considers you in the driver's seat instead of a medical/diagnostic approach and 'doctor-patient' scenario.
This means that you have agency of what topics we talk about and to which extend.
At Ikon, self-development and understanding is emphasised to be both an excellent practitioner and a wonderful
human. It is recognised that with just learning about theoretical knowledge alone, it is likely to have a
limited capacity to make a great counsellor. This distinguishes my training from any other course:
Ikon and its experiential nature ensure that we as students go through our own personal
content and process it as we journey through the course to prevent the practitioner's
content from entering and contaminating the therapeutic relationship to the
disadvantage of our inquirers. This way we emerge as the clear
instrument we show up in to do our practice
within a healthy relational field.
For me, therapy is not a doctor-patient relationship, but two companions collaboratively exploring your (body) mind.
The reciprocity within that relationship, the giving and receiving, aims to connect with you on an emotional,
intellectual, experiential and/or spiritual level, thereby allowing your challenges to be explored
with a deep level of subjectivity and always a high degree of
compassionate understanding.
I aim towards supporting my inquirers to explore their (body) mind with me, shift their thinking, develop an understanding of their emotions and schemas and build healthy relationships with them, explore and resolve past traumas,
as well as providing a space for inquirers to meaningfully interpret and re-author their narratives and
stories they believe to be true about them. I feel that there is a lot of individuals looking to
unlearn their societal, learned identity and blossoming open into their true selves
instead. What are your personal truths, ideas, values and what
is the specialty that nobody else has that makes you you?
